Spring Break 2013
I am headed to Europe on April 10th to tour a new set of solo viola songs throughout Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.
My old and dear friend, Katie Young is meeting me out there and playing a set of her solo bassoon and electronics music on most of the shows as a double bill.
Looking forward to some new adventures, rumors of a raging dance party in Basel, and plenty of heart to hearts as we drive through the rolling hills of Deutschland.
Many thanks to Peter Schneider who organized the trip and has shown much enthusiasm for the project. Also thanks to Felix Lichtblau who will be driving and doing sound on the second leg of the tour.

February 2013
I’m headed north to play a string of solo violin / vox shows mostly as a double bill with bassist, CJ Boyd. Am also looking forward to seeing some old buds along the way:
Carl, Taylor and Rachel (Anne & Matt W.?) in New Haven, Brett and Em in Maine, the Weismans and Neil Young Cloaca (!!) in VT, Adam in Ottawa, Tad in Toronto (w/ a day off for extra Tad time!) and whatever new friends I make. I’m not familiar with some of the other bands I’m playing with, so I am also looking forward to being exposed to some new sounds. My Mediterranean blood does not fair well in the cold. Gonna do my best to stay warm.

Old News
Around this time last year, I was buried behind my lap top working on an article titled, “Process, Creativity, and Planetary Returns.”
I discuss my creative process, how it has evolved over time and the particular influence of saturn’s planetary return, which according to astrological
belief systems is a “coming of age” of sorts. It was my first time formally writing about another main interest of mine, astrology. The article was published
in a book, Arcana VI, in the fall of 2012. If you are interested in reading a slice of my thoughts, it can be found here:

Now that I am almost able to carry my own amp…
I’m once again trying to get this solo project off the ground.
For those of you who don’t know me too well, I had major back surgery
over the summer and couldn’t lift anything over 10 lbs. for two months.
I spent most of my surgical recovery on tour with Normal Love - which ruled.
It was tons of fun and they were amazing about adhering to my medical needs.
So, I am not only thrilled that I can actually walk again,
but am also really happy to soon be able to shlep my own gear and get my own
ass out to play some shows. (you don’t miss your water till your well runs dry).
I’ll be playing a few solo shows in October:
17th @ Vaudeville Park
28th @ Shapeshifter Lab.
Later on the night on the 28th, NL reconvenes to play at Paper Box in Bushwick.
My buddy, Michael, took some video of a solo performance from early June.
Me, with a raging sinus infection, just days prior to my paralysis.
I’m still in the works with this, but this is what its looking to shape up into.

New Release - Hope Dawson is Missing - June 25, 2012
I have a new CD coming out early this summer. With the help of a commission from the Jerome Foundation, I spent 2010 composing all of the music and the first half of 2011 writing the lyrics. Here is what Tzadik has to say about it:
“Following upon her acclaimed first CD for Tzadik, Songs of Synastry and Solitude (2009), Jessica Pavone has created a beautiful and evocative song cycle that meditates on themes of destruction and rebuilding, migration, falsities, and undeniable truths. Adding the heartfelt voice of Emily Manzo and long time associate Mary Halvorson, to the Toomai String quintet along with a dynamic rhythm section (Tomas Fujiwara), the music is explorative and lyrical. Pavone continues her imaginative exploration of new and exciting ways to present stories and song forms in chamber music contexts with this latest offering.”
